It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and there are wonderful things happening around Arkansas. Get out and enjoy the season.

#6: Festival of Trees ~ Little Rock

Festival of Trees is a four-day event at the Statehouse Convention Center featuring beautifully decorated trees and unique special events for children and adults such as Sugar Plum Ball, Festival of Fashion, Festival After Dark and Tux ‘N Trees, and a black-tie event.

For the past 39 years, the CARTI Auxiliary has been putting on this spectacular fund-raising event. Since its inception, Festival of Trees has raised in excess of $6.5 million to support the mission of CARTI and provide direct financial support to the patients it serves.

#5: Sugar Plum Fairy Tea ~ Fort Smith

Western Arkansas Ballet hosts the annual Sugar Plum Fairy Tea from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Attendees enjoy refreshments, crafts, a photo opportunity and interaction with cast members.

#3: The Rink at Lawrence Plaza Opens ~ Bentonville

The Rink at Lawrence Plaza opens this weekend.  Head out and ice skate, participate in Broomball (new this year!), drop-in Hockey, watch movies or “Frosty’s Flicks”, take group ice skating lessons and mail a letter to Santa! You have to mail your letter to Santa by Dec. 17th to make sure you get a letter back by Christmas!

#2: Ozark Storytellers Gathering

Tall tales are an Ozark Tradition, passed on from teller to teller. The Ozark Storytellers Gathering will add to your repertoire of tales, both real and tall.

A storytelling competition will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the White Oak Theater.  Storytellers must sign up by 6:30 to compete. There is a $50 first prize for the winning story by a vote of the audience. Saturday there will be performances by park storytellers and special guests. Workshops on developing characters, knowing your audience and sharing stories from your real life will be held in the White Oak Auditorium and are open to any visitor.
