However, there’s one bonus to shorter days – vibrant sunsets while I’m still out and about. We have some beautiful spots to take in the sunset all around Arkansas. Here are 9 great places to watch daylight fade into dusk. We can’t wait to hear yours.
Mount Nebo State Park. How can you go wrong with a spot named Sunset Point? Head up over 1,300 feet near Dardanelle to take in a breathtaking Central Arkansas Sunset from the trail with its namesake. If you decide to hike out to see the sunset, make sure you have a flashlight to help you get back in the evening.
Lake Ouachita. Just about anywhere around the lake will provide you with a great sunset view. Head out just past Hot Springs where you can take in the Arkansas sunset from a boat, a kayak, a houseboat or from the shoreline. The view is even better when surrounded by your family!
The Arkansas-Memphis Bridge. On the eastern edge of the state is one of the most beautiful Delta sunsets you’ve ever seen. Since the sun sets in the West, you might actually have a better view from just across in Tennessee gazing back into Arkansas, but seeing the bridge lit up at dusk in the orange sky is a sight to behold no matter which side of the river you’re on.
Pinnacle Mountain State Park. From the top of this spot just outside of Little Rock, you can see the sun set over the Arkansas River, down into the Arkansas River Valley, and cascade over parts of the city. Hike up to the top and enjoy watching the sun kiss the river.
On the Arkansas River. The river flows through our entire state, from Fort Smith to Desha County. That means you have endless opportunities to watch day turn to dusk just about anywhere on the over 320 miles of river.
Lake Hamilton. As a part of Hot Springs, which is the state’s most popular tourist destination, countless people have seen the sunset from the lake. There are many hotels and condos right on the water, so you might be able to catch the sunset from your backyard or balcony when visiting overnight. If you’re out on the water, you’ll find yourself immersed in red and orange water, or watch the sun dip below the horizon from a booth on the patio of Fisherman’s Wharf. Bonus if it’s a holiday sunset followed by fireworks on the lake!
Petit Jean State Park- Mather’s Lodge. The lodge, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, boasts a beautiful sunset view over Cedar Creek Canyon. Whether you have a room in the lodge for the night or are just visiting, stop by to see the sweeping view.
From a duck blind in the Delta. I must admit this is one I’ve not personally seen. However, when asking friends for top Arkansas sunset spots, many outdoorsmen promised me the most beautiful sunset they’ve ever seen is from a duck blind in the Delta. I can imagine being out in nature doing something you love is part of the experience! Since hunting is allowed up until sunset, if you’re out, make sure you keep an eye on the sky for the sunset as well as the waterfowl.
Arvest Ballpark. Home of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in Springdale, this stadium is positioned for beautiful sunsets. If you’re here for a night game, make sure you walk around the back of the stadium to see the sunset in full 360-degree glory.
