Weekend Planner – November 7 – 8, 2015

H

Here are some ideas to help you map out your fall weekend in Arkansas. From zombies to cornbread to contemporary dance to athletic events, Arkansas has a wide array of things to put on your must-do list.

Sturgis Mansion
Zombie Paintball at Paintball Arkansas

Zombies were first spotted near Conway, Arkansas in late 2013 and thanks to a lot of brave men, women and children armed with paintballs, they were eradicated by mid-November. At least that’s what we thought.

The Zombie Hunt is kid-friendly (except for the Sturgis Mansion), so it is fun for the whole family.

Paintball Arkansas’s Zombie Hunt continues through November 7th! Paintball Arkansas is open year-round and aims to help beginners experience the fun of paintball. You can find out more about Paintball Arkansas on their website, and you can follow them on Facebook. Paintball Arkansas is located at 558 Sturgis Road in Conway.  Read more here on OnlyinArk.

CORE Gaman camp internee contemplates the flag
Gaman: Remembering Arkansas’s Internment of Japanese-Americans

A richly-layered performance of contemporary dance that explores how challenges can be overcome by courage, and expresses the conflicting emotions of sorrow and joy, confinement and liberation, that were experienced by the interned Japanese-American citizens during World War II.

Cornbread Fest

Cornbread is a traditional Southern staple. But the festival celebrating its many variations only got off the ground in 2011. On Saturday, November 7th, the 5th annual Arkansas Cornbread Festival will be held in Little Rock’s SoMa District between 13th and 16th Streets on South Main Street.

The Civil War was one of the most trying times in our nation’s history. During Civil War Weekend, visitors will walk the streets of a town touched by the hand of war. We will interpret the many conflicts of the area when Washington was Arkansas’s Confederate Capitol. Reenactors from across the region will present living history demonstrations, including combat scenarios, throughout the weekend. Guided tours of the many historic homes and buildings of the town will be available, as well as surrey rides. Contact the park for a detailed program schedule.
