Film lovers rejoice. One of the biggest local movie events of the year is coming up in Fayetteville.
Organizers behind the annual Fayetteville Film Festival this month announced the lineup for their upcoming 2017 event, set for Sept. 12-16 at various locations in downtown Fayetteville.
The 2017 lineup will include 56 films, including features, documentaries, short films, foreign films, animated films, and more screened over the five-day event.
Among the feature films to be screened this year is Dayveon, a feature-length drama by Little Rock filmmaker Amman Abbasi filmed in Central Arkansas that was widely hailed after appearances at Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year. Abbasi was recently named one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film” by Filmmaker Magazine.
Also included in the lineup is the world premiere of Door in the Woods, a new horror film by local filmmaker Chase Goforth shot entirely in Northwest Arkansas.
The festival will also include a screening of All the Birds Have Flown South, directed by The Miller Brothers of Little Rock, and featuring Arkansas-native and Golden Globe Award winning actress Joey Lauren Adams.
In addition to the film lineup, the festival will also include panel discussions, Q&A sessions with the visiting filmmakers, workshops, and other events. A Silver Screen / Red Carpet part is set for Thursday, Sept. 14, and will include films accompanied with music by The Shadow Ensemble, a group of local musicians known for their live film scores.
All screenings at this year’s festival will take place in and around downtown Fayetteville, primarily at the Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History (1 East Center St.), and at the Chancellor Hotel (70 North East St.).
Full weekend passes to this year’s festival are $40, on sale now at eventbrite.com. Single tickets to individual screenings are also available, and range from free to $7.
