Spring is here and that means the start of car show season. Since the invention of the automobile people have been modifying cars to suit their personal style or for competition. It’s doubtful that anyone knows when the first “car show” was held but I can imagine seeing a large group of Model T owners getting together to compare and share info about their cars. Fast forward to 2016 and you will find that there is a car show (or several) just about every weekend from Spring through Fall in Arkansas. While most car shows are made up of a variety of makes and models, one of the most impressive shows you can go to is made up of just one specific car … The Corvette!
Spanning 3 days, the 18th Annual Corvette Weekend in Hot Springs has quickly become one of the most recognized Corvette shows in the region, if not the country. Hosted by the Central Arkansas Corvette Club, the event will take place at the Hot Springs Convention Center over the weekend of April 21-23, 2016. For participants in the weekend, there will be food, parades, indoor car show, vendors, awards, silent auction, live auction and more.
You don’t have to own a Corvette to attend. Friday evening around 4:30 brings a large parade of Corvettes through Downtown Hot Springs. Saturday there will be an indoor Corvette show at the convention center from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. FREE Admission to all spectators who want to come through and see the pretty cars. Over 300 Corvettes are expected to be on display. From Classic 1950’s and 60’s Corvettes to the latest, greatest C7 generation (2014-16), all generations will be represented. There will be vendors set up to show some of their great car-related products as well as t-shirts and hats and other souvenirs. Each year there is a large silent auction of all sorts of items with part of the proceeds going to Spina Bifida Arkansas.
Central Arkansas Corvette Club (CACC) was founded in the mid 1970s by a handful of enthusiasts who saw the need for a common meeting place for Corvette lovers of Central Arkansas. The club hosts a variety of events throughout the year including “lunch runs” to notable places of interest, track days, car shows and more. One of the main goals of the club is to give back and that’s why CACC is a proud supporter of “Beyond Boundaries”, Ronald McDonald House, Arkansas Freedom Fund, and Spina Bifida Arkansas.
