While the ever-changing collection of furniture, kitchenware, linens and other decor items draw people from around the state and beyond, what keeps them coming back is Joy, the owner who lives up to her name.
Joy has always loved old things and got hooked on buying and selling antiques when she owned an auction house with her husband, Cary. In that auction house, Joy spent some time helping people with their estate items when they downsized their homes. She really enjoyed the process of helping folks understand the value of their property, and when it was time to move on from the auction house, Joy had an interesting proposition. She was approached by a retiring antiques dealer to sell her store inventory. While the inventory was too big to sell at the auction, another opportunity arose. Joy and Cary purchased the inventory and opened their very own antiques shop.
A long time Springdale resident, Joy knew that the Downtown area was where she wanted her business. As she looked for a location, she knew she found the perfect spot when she walked into her current shop location on Emma Avenue. The open floor space, high ceilings with tin tiles and original wooden floors were the ideal background to display antiques.
After five years of growing her business, Joy has attracted many loyal customers. The Cellar Door Store has such loyal and admiring customers, in fact, that it was voted runner-up in Cityscapes’ Best Antique Shop category. Folks travel to Emma Avenue from Bentonville and Fort Smith, as well as all around the state thanks to social media where Joy’s enthusiasm for her products is apparent in the displays she photographs for her Instagram and Facebook pages.
Whether you collect vintage Pyrex, old quilts or costume jewelry, or you are looking for antique heirloom furniture, visit Joy. Chances are, The Cellar Door Store has something you’ll love.
