Celebrate Oktoberfest at Bauhaus Biergarten in Springdale

F

Forget booking a trip to Munich in October to enjoy Oktoberfest because every Thursday through Sunday feels like Oktoberfest at Bauhaus Biergarten in Springdale.

“I feel like I just went on vacation out of town,” my husband contently declared after enjoying a pile of happy food on Thursday night. I say “happy food” because larger-than-your-face pretzels, beer, sausage, homemade mustard, and beer cheese are pretty much make-everyone-happy food. I say “pile” because, let’s face it, you won’t leave hungry or thirsty when you hang out at Bauhaus Biergarten in downtown Springdale.

And you won’t leave uncomfortably stuffed, either.

Willkommen!

In the summer of 2022, business partners Chef Jennifer Hill Booker (who spent time living in Paris and Bavaria) and Daniel Hintz (who grew up in the German-American vibe of Milwaukee) opened a unique dining experience in Northwest Arkansas. They aimed to bring a “prototypical German experience with an indoor taproom and outdoor beer garden with classic German beers and traditional German food.”

This vision comes to life every Thursday through Sunday in their colorful building and outdoor yard in downtown Springdale’s Arts District, a short walking distance from the main drag.

This biergarten, aka beer garden, is just outside the main entrance to the taproom and spills out in all directions. You can dine under trees and umbrellas or duck into little table nooks. There are also tables inside for those days when the weather is less than desirable.

I highly recommend sitting outside under the string lights! It’s part of recreating the German experience. And for those of you with pets, they will love it, too.

Let’s eat!

While Bauhaus Biergarten has the word “beer garden” in its name, think food first, drinks second. Remember, this is happy food, and you absolutely will not be disappointed.

There is something for everyone at Bauhaus Biergarten. There are sausages galore, but if you are like me and don’t eat pork, try the Chicken Sausage Sandwich, which is a chicken and apple sweet sausage with a special sauerkraut braised in apple cider. There are two types of sauerkraut, traditional and apple cider. The apple cider is made without pork, so vegetarians will be delighted to know that. Add a side of Pickled Market Veggies.

Unique menu items include Loaded Baked Potatoes and Schnitzel with pomme frites and garlic aioli. I skipped the Schnitzel and ordered a side of pomme frites and garlic aioli. Heaven!

Order a Giant Bavarian Pretzel with Beer Cheese! This is a soft, warm, and GIANT pretzel with a delicate flavor, not the usual kind you find out and about that are touched with a twang. This is a true Bavarian pretzel with their homemade Dunkel beer cheese dip. Delightful! I recommend getting generous with the homemade mustard and the beer cheese dip.

Let’s drink!

I recommend you walk through the doors and let Daniel talk and make recommendations. He won’t leave you astray, and you will get caught up in his enthusiasm.

Come early for happy hour; all drafts are $5 a pint. I recommend trying a German beer for your first experience and then experimenting. The entire selection has been carefully selected for flavor and depth. Each offering has a story, so be sure to ask questions!

I like dark beers, and we went with a Bitburger Pilsner and Tucher Helles Lager. Incredibly sippable!

We ended the evening with an Aval French Cider Rose, a centuries-old French cider made from blush-fleshed regional apples. You must try it to believe it!

Best of all, they have a fridge where you can take home what you experienced.

Oh, one more thing… Bauhaus Biergarten also has an incredibly curated non-alcohol selection as well.

A destination

I think Bauhaus Biergarten is a unique destination in the heart of Northwest Arkansas. If you’ve got the travel is about the food experience bug, come to Bauhaus Biergarten for a truly authentic experience.
