MJ Pizzeria in Springdale

Looking for the perfect pizza spot that is more than a pizza place? Check out MJ Pizzeria in Springdale for wood-fired pizza made with homemade dough and sauce, homemade pasta, and lighter fare to please all appetites.

A place like home.

You may be familiar with the name Miles James. He is, after all, a Northwest Arkansas foodie icon.  As executive chef and co-owner, along with his wife, Courtney, Miles James knows how to prepare incredibly intoxicating dishes at MJ Pizzeria. But first, let’s talk a little more about what brought him to open this cozy pizza spot in Springdale.

Miles is a restaurant royalty. From the fine dining at Ella Restaurant at the Inn at Carnal Hall in Fayetteville, 28 Springs in Siloam Springs, and to the elegant dining at James at the Mill in Johnson, this switch to a chef-inspired, fast-casual dining concept in Springdale was years in the making.

“We put a pizza oven in Ella at Carnal Hall, and the pizza and pasta portion really exploded,” Miles told me. “I worked with a pizza oven company in Washington, and the owner/chef and I became friends. Adding pizza to fine dining worked so well, and I thought we needed to do this as a stand-alone. And then, the space just fell in my lap, and the timing was perfect.”

This was two years before selling James at the Mill. It was the summer of 2015, and it was the right place at the right time. The shift from fine dining to more fast-casual dining makes it a place you can visit daily.

No special occasion is needed.

Wood-Fired Pizza

The pizza at MJ Pizzeria is legit. It is wood-fired, and the dough and sauce are freshly made daily. In fact, just about everything is hand-made, from the pasta to the sauces and hand-churned ice creams and sorbets.

Yes, you can make your pizza using a wide selection of ingredients, including Fior di Latte Mozzarella, Goat Cheese, Crème fraîche, Garlic, Cured Olives, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes (yes, on a pizza!), local regular or basil, and the list goes on. Choose to make your own, ask the chef to surprise you, or order from their Wood-Fired Signature Pizzas, such as Spicy Chicken Pizza, Farm Fresh Egg Pizza, Veggie, or, of course, a signature Margherita Pizza with MJ red sauce, Italian herbs, mozzarella, and local basil.

You can’t go wrong.

Order dough, sauce, and mozzarella to go and add a quart of Caesar Dressing on the side. The moral of the story is that Miles and Courtney want everyone who dines with them to feel like this is their home kitchen away from home.

There’s more than pizza!

Yes, there IS more than pizza. You can’t go wrong if you are in the mood for something light, like a salad, pasta, or appetizer.

I recommend starting with the MJ Antipasto, which is amply delivered to your table with homemade mozzarella slices, marinated olives and artichokes, goat cheese, and herbed ricotta. All are served with crostini and tomato jam. Delicious!

Oh! And if the weather is good, snag a spot on the outside patio, call up some friends, and have a wonderful evening at your home away from home. After all, MJ Pizzeria is approachable and fun, and I think it’s one of the best restaurants In Northwest Arkansas.
