The gyro is that good, one of the very best in all Central Arkansas, in fact. I know because I have pretty much tried them all. By the way, Ali Baba across the street from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock campus is also one to remember, but that is a story for another day.
Attention is in the details with Mama’s gyro. The pita bread is always soft. The shaved meat is always finished on the blacktop grill, giving it those perfect, crispy edges. The tzatziki sauce and chopped onions and tomatoes are always plentiful. Put it all together and you have a gyro worth driving great distances for. Oh, and Randy happens to be one heck of a nice guy. The great service is always appreciated.
All this gushing about the gyros aside, Mama’s does excel with other dishes, like the classic, straightforward burger and seasoned fries and a chicken Parmesan sandwich that sometimes pops up as a special. The latter comes with a fried chicken cutlet covered with mozzarella and a rich marinara, most of which drips over the sides. No worries, just use a fry to catch the excess.
If you are looking to go a healthier route, the salad topped with a hunk of grilled salmon is a nice option, but make sure to keep an eye out for Mama’s daily specials like Big Burger Monday, Greek Salad Tuesday, Spaghetti & Meatballs Wednesday, and Fish Friday. The restaurant also puts on a family meal special from time to time, especially when the Hogs play. It includes four gyros, salad, fries, and baklava, all for $40. Speaking of baklava, I am told Mama’s does that well, too, although I am just not a fan of any baklava. I know, I know, something must be wrong with me, right?
Whatever you end up ordering at the restaurant, just know the fast-casual experience will not set you back too much money. If you are dining solo, expect to drop about $10-$15 (and that is including tip). Most meals cost $10.
Mama’s Gyros Grill had been closed for dine-in service for much of the pandemic but has recently opened things back up. This complements an already strong takeout and delivery business. Hey, I say get this food by whatever avenue works best for you. The gyros do travel quite well, but like anything else, it is always best to eat the food right then and there for maximum quality. One thing is for certain, if you go to Mama’s once, you will be back again, and again, and again.
