You may have seen the restaurant location off of 14th and J Street and wondered, “Hmmm… what does a beach have to do with BBQ?”
While Beach BBQ has nothing to do with the ocean, it has everything to do with James Beachboard and Ravi Dadi’s friendship bond over good food. The two began experimenting with various smoked barbecued foods in Beachboard’s backyard and explored ways to bring freshness to barbecue. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it, and I’m glad they decided to experiment in their backyard to bring a fresh BBQ concept to our backyard.
Beach BBQ uses oak-smoked BBQ and has all the usuals you would expect on a menu: meats, poultry, wings, ribs, beans and coleslaw. Yet you will find little twists and turns.
Their menu boasts Family Platters for a group (or a group-sized appetite), a fifty-piece wing package, a whole brisket, meat by the pound, Smoked Salmon Dip and more. I especially love seeing Whole Beef Ribs on the menu, as these are often hard to find.
While I haven’t eaten through all the offerings, I recommend the Loaded Baked Potato chocked full of white cheddar, red onion, green onion, crema and Beach BBQ Sweet Sauce. Add the Smoked Beef Brisket and bring a friend. Servings are HUGE.
If you’re feeling a little more on the I-want-bbq-but-I-also-want-salad fence, I recommend a Caesar salad with smoked chicken and brown butter solids. Again, bring a friend. Servings are HUGE!
The sides are delicious and a fresh way of serving BBQ sides. Yes, there is slaw, mac and cheese, and baked beans. But did you know they also have collard greens, street corn, baked potato salad, mashed potatoes, and gravy?
If you’re not into meat or barbecue but your friends/family/coworkers insist on dragging you to BBQ, you can feel good about Beach BBQ.
Ravi’s background was more vegetarian before he met James, so he has a heart for making sure there are plenty of options for everyone.
For instance, Beach BBQ serves regular coleslaw and Kimchi coleslaw. You can ask for a side of beans without meat. They also have smoked vegetables and a vegan Portabello Mushroom Sandwich.
The space at Beach BBQ has a spot available for everyone’s style. You’re covered whether you like to find a quiet place to get some work done over delicious food, meet up with the family at a large table or gather with your friends on the patio.
And remember, the servings are HUGE, so there is no shame in taking food home for later.
