The restaurant that’s tucked back in a retail strip off South Street in Benton opens at 5:30 each morning and serves breakfast until closing at 1 p.m. The menu is small but well-executed, comprised of several of the breakfast standards most of us adore. Nothing about the food or setting or service is over-the-top, but rather just a good, downhome experience that I imagine will be well-received by folks in the area.
I ordered what seemed to be a little of everything on my recent visit, and truth be told, I was pleased with it all. I never take a perfect meal for granted, especially these days with all the issues restaurants are battling. Niecy’s has only been open a couple months, so kudos to them for getting things right so early in the process.
The pancakes are light and fluffy with an added punch of vanilla flavor. They are sizeable, so maybe only get one. French toast is also available for the sweet tooth folks (like me) out there, but I focused the rest of my meal on some of Niecy’s savory options, like the biscuits and gravy. Both items are scratch-made, and while the biscuits are a little denser than some folks’ preference, I thought they paired quite well with the sausage gravy. You’ll find no lumps in this gravy. Believe me, I looked.
The egg sandwich is another excellent option. It comes with your choice of protein (bacon, sausage, or ham), along with a fried egg and American cheese. Go with the ham, a nice slab of it imparts a wonderful saltiness to the handheld. The breakfast burrito is also sure to please. Much like this sandwich, it includes a protein and cheese, but Niecy’s also jams a pile of hash browns into the flour tortilla.
I passed on an omelet and biscuit sandwich this time in favor of a Classic Breakfast, only because the latter provided me with an opportunity to try a little of everything on one plate. You can get it with one, two, or three eggs, as well as hash browns (or grits) and toast or biscuits and gravy and protein. I got the bacon, which was thin, crisp, and of course, just as appropriately greasy as you’d want it to be. Niecy’s nailed my sunny side up eggs, which as anyone can tell you is critically important for a true breakfast spot. Screw up the eggs and there will be other problems. These eggs were done right.
But as I already mentioned, everything was done right. I had zero complaints and that included our efficient, no-nonsense service, another feather in Niecy’s hat. Keep an eye on Niecy’s social media, as it looks like the restaurant will be introducing specials, like a variety of parfaits and sweet rolls.
Something tells me that they’ll be good.
