There is something so cozy about a welcoming coffee shop that hits you with all the senses once you step inside. We’re talking charming employees, colorful mugs, heavenly smells and delicious treats. We’re talking Café Con Chisme in downtown Springdale.
In early 2024, Ricardo Munoz and his dear friend Laura opened an authentic Hispanic coffee shop in Northwest Arkansas.
The idea was to make it so that you felt hours could go by and wouldn’t even notice. That’s the feeling they wanted, and that’s the feeling you get when you go to Café Con Chisme in downtown Springdale.
If I’m honest, the colorful mugs drew me to Café Con Chisme in the first place. Yes, sure, the idea of getting lost for hours in a comfortable coffee shop sounded delightful, but if you know me, you know that I am all about the coffee mugs at a coffee shop. None of this paper stuff. Gimme all the mugs. I don’t know; coffee tastes better in a mug.
These mugs are colorful and crafted in Mexico, where Laura visits her family and picks up supplies.
Since I already mentioned the drinks, let’s chat about the Latin-inspired drinks. Order a mug in a chico, classico or grandote (small, medium, large) size and be prepared to enjoy every sip.
It’s hard to decide what to order from unique offerings such as Abuelas Hot Chocolate (chocolate, cinnamon, salt), Horchata, El Azteca (sweet heat, white and dark chocolate, cayenne) or Tres Leches!
For your first time, I recommend the Churro Latte, a hot (or cold) coffee with shaken brown sugar cinnamon espresso and cinnamon milk. Delicious!
There are plenty of regular options, such as Black Coffee, Americano and similar. If you are into soda, tea or slushies, you’re covered.
Also, here’s a little fun fact: If you have a favorite photo, you can scan it when you order, and the cream on your coffee will come with that photo! No photo? No problem! You can also choose from multiple images in their ordering system.
Beautiful mugs aside, Café Con Chisme is known for its conchas, a sweet Mexican bread with a crunchy topping that resembles a seashell.
Just order it. No questions asked.
I love it when coffee shops offer more than drinks and pastries. At Café Con Chisme, you can order a handful of Bocados (aka morsels), such as Tortas, Biscuits and Gravy and Chilaquiles.
I recommend the Green Chilaquiles with a fried egg on top. There is something so beautiful about delicious sauces, melty cheese and a gooey fried egg running over. Ahhhh. Incredible!
So, the moral of the story? Come for the mugs, stay for the drinks, nibble on pastries and eat the food.
