Have you ever wanted to go to a fancy restaurant and order dessert and coffee? The thought of it feels like pure decadence, something someone does only on vacation.
If you’ve considered it—or are only now thinking about doing such a delightful thing—Meaux Beignet in Bentonville is just the place. Except for one thing—Meaux Beignet isn’t a fancy restaurant; it is a food truck!
In 2021, Dwight Winfield, a New Orleans native, opened the bright, happy yellow Meaux Beignet food truck on the Bentonville Brewing Company food truck yard.
Beignets (pronounced BEN-YAY) are quintessential New Orleans happy food. Have you ever seen anyone eat a beignet with a frown? So, along with his bright, happy yellow truck, Dwight started serving delicious, melt-in-your-mouth, homemade beignets, and he hasn’t looked back.
Each of Dwight’s homemade beignets is served hot and fresh. While I don’t know his specific recipe, beignets are similar to the delicious yeast rolls that your Aunt Peggy makes every Thanksgiving. Only beignets are mixed with yeast, evaporated milk, and eggs and cut into squares. Once deep-fried, the beignet is dusted with powdered sugar. Devour them; I’m sure every cell in your body will start smiling.
Meaux (pronounced “MOE”) Beignets offers several variations of hot and fresh beignets. You HAVE to go with the classic: “three fluffy, mouth-watering, New Orleans-style beignets dusted to perfection with powdered sugar.”
Bring a friend because you’ll want to share it… AND… order at least another specialty beignet.
Other everyday offerings include Ozark Beignets (filled with sweet Arkansas Chocolate Gravy and powdered sugar on top), Pecan Candy Beignets (topped with caramelized pralines, raw honey, and roasted pecan and yes, powdered sugar on top), and the Woo Pig Sooie (hot or cold with one scoop of raspberry swirl ice cream sandwiched between two classic beignets, and you guessed it, powdered sugar on top).
Because I am a classic gal, I always go with New Orleans-style beignets and something extra, even a simple raspberry-dipped beignet.
Dwight often has Chicory Coffee and Café Au Lait (bold chicory coffee and milk), a perfect companion to the sugar treats. Of course, there’s always hot chocolate or water for the littles.
I mentioned that the Meaux Beignet food truck is located at the Bentonville Brewery Company food truck yard. It’s on the east side of the brewery’s yard, where tables and seating are located.
If you’re not into sipping on a brew and are just looking for a sweet treat, you can easily park, walk up, and order a beignet or two. Or, stroll along the floating boardwalk paths at Osage Park, steps away from Meaux Beignet, and explore over twelve acres of wetland. It might make you feel a little better about that extra beignet (or two) you ate.
