Fans do not attend games to pay attention to the floor on which their home team plays, but that floor is the constant in the frenzied activity of crowds and players, its craftsmanship envisioned and designed long before the athletes arrive and well after the stadium empties after every game.
That’s where Arkansas-born Gym Masters steps in.
The Gym Masters Basketball Courts company started 27 years ago in Searcy, Arkansas by a couple of basketball coaches who had already been maintaining the floors at their own gyms. The responsibility fell on them every summer to make sure their floor was coated, cleaned and sealed. They realized they could offer this service to other coaches in the area, and created a business.
The company grew into much more. Gym Masters is now in the business of branding gym floors, refurbishing floors and helping gyms make their mark on the nation with their unique designs.
Basketball courts by Gym Masters are designed to immediately grab your attention. From the details inside the arc, sideline designs and mascots in the middle, they bring personality and life to gym floors all across Arkansas.
Though the company will translate any design their customer produces, Gym Masters excels in creating high-quality graphic designs in their floor, and pride themselves in the ability to make custom logos for each school. They love to help schools brand with a logo incorporating the school and mascot. And when Gym Masters creates a custom logo for you, the files are yours to use on websites, apparel and other marketing, which is a testament to their customer service.
Cossatot River High School in Wickes, Arkansas knows about their designs. The basketball floor company created a hand-drawn eagle for the school and then went on to paint that eagle as a 102-foot graphic across the court. Since the eagle was created exclusively for the school, no one else is allowed to use that design.
Community members, coaches, and athletes all look forward to the rebranding of their schools’ gym floors. The fresh look and artistry of their designs are always fun and exciting to unveil to the community.
Gym Masters is also proud of how they keep many old gym floors up-to-date and in perfect working condition. To provide the correct upkeep, floors need to be refurbished every six to ten years. That means that schools can get a fresh look on their gym floor with a new logo or design each time the gym floor needs to be completely refurbished.
Several of the gym floors they service are throwbacks to the Work Projects Administration and were built in the 1930s as part of the New Deal project. Many of those gyms are still being played on today, including the Clover Bend High School in Lawrence County, who earned a spot on the U.S. Registry of National History.
Gym Masters has made it their mission to complete gym floor work quickly, and can finish a refurbishing project in three days. That includes sanding the floor down to bare wood, sealing, coating, painting and sealing again. They make the job a priority because they know how important a gym floor is to a school and community. Companies typically take two to three weeks to finish such projects, but Gym Masters wants to serve their schools well and reduce the time a gym is closed.
Gym Masters refurbishes about 60 Arkansas gym floors each year. To properly take care of a gym floor, it needs to have a yearly clear coat. From May to July, the crew at Gym Masters can be found working and long days to get the majority of gyms ready around the state.
The people at Gym Masters are honored to handle the Razorback basketball court floors at the University of Arkansas, floors they have maintained over time. Since fans say the Razorbacks generally play well at home, Gym Masters likes to say it is because of the awesome floor.
That crew of employees is proud to be a part of their company. The 10 full-time employees who make gym floor projects a huge success say they love working for this family-oriented company and are proud to be a part of the business. Employee Baron Simmons joins in on the accolades.
“I love working for Gym Masters because of their commitment to customer service and employee family life. We always go above and beyond to build rapport and help the school districts as much as possible. We also strive to recognize the personal family needs and will build the schedule to accommodate everything we can. God is also a central focus among the leadership of this company.”
