Rank: Corporal (CPL)
Rifle Marksmanship Instructor at Camp Lejeune, NC. Post Security in Jordan.
Alex was in the Marine Corps as a combat engineer (MOS:1371) from October 2015 to October 2019. During this time, he worked in construction and explosives demolition. He achieved the rank of Corporal, where he led marines in training and further developing their careers while also being a combat marksmanship instructor. He transitioned into the Army as a financial management technician (MOS:36B) from October 2019 to October 2023. As a Specialist and Corporal, Alex worked with soldiers and civilians to ensure that other soldiers were paid correctly and on time. This was his first job experience in the financial industry.
Alex grew up in Norfolk, Virginia and Spartanburg, South Carolina where he went to Woodruff High School in South Carolina. Then later moved to Missouri and graduated from Webb City High School. He attended the University of Maryland Global Campus with a major in General Studies and Finance. His brother currently serves in the Army, and his mother served in the Army for four years. Although he had family who served, his inspiration for joining the Marine Corps and Army was to be able to go to college.
When I asked Alex about his most memorable memory from the military he told me, “Spending time with all the people that over time became family to me.” Whether he was waking up in the middle of the woods or the desert, those people were always around.
Samantha Williams
Retail, Clinton, AR
Dates of Military Service: November 16, 2009- April 15, 2015
Branch of Service: United States Marine Corps
Rank: Corporal (CPL)
Operation United Assistance, humanitarian response to the Ebola outbreak
6326 Aviation Electrician on the MV-22 Osprey
Samantha was raised in American Fork, Utah, and graduated from American Fork High School. She was unsure what she wanted to do after graduation and found that she would be best suited for the Marines after visiting a friend in San Diego. She went to the recruiter’s office the day she returned from that trip. Samantha said that the Marines offered her camaraderie, which she lacked at the time, and it came with a sense of adventure and physical and mental challenges that led to personal growth. Those adventures in the military led her to explore Sicily and Spain, where she created her most cherished memories.
Once Samantha left the military, she enrolled at Arkansas Tech University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Agribusiness. Samantha said, “Experiencing the different cultures and seeing beautiful, old landmarks was fascinating. I have goals to do more traveling across Europe and South America.”
First Security Bank is grateful to Alex Miller and Samantha Williams for their service to our country and how they serve our customers daily.
