Norfork, Arkansas, is a hidden gem for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Our trip in August showcased the region’s scenic landscapes and cozy atmosphere, creating a weekend to remember.
We began our fishing adventure at Norfork Dam, a popular starting point for trout fishing. Our friend Josh, an experienced fly-fishing guide, led us in his drift boat from Norfork Dam to Norfork Access. The river’s cool waters, averaging 58 degrees, provide an ideal environment for some of the region’s largest trout.
The river suits both experienced anglers and those trying wade fishing for the first time. For the best experience, check river levels before your visit at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website.
Located on Highway 5 in Norfork, Two Rivers Fly Shop offers a full selection of gear for a successful day on the water. Owner Dru is a local expert who can recommend the best spots and flies. Beginners or anyone seeking a comprehensive experience can also book guided trips.
After a morning of fishing, we enjoyed lunch at Lazy Enchilada. This casual Tex-Mex restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Their specialty, enchiladas and burritos, is a perfect way to refuel after a morning on the river.
A trip to the Norfork National Fish Hatchery is a must. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (excluding federal holidays), the hatchery features raceways filled with trout of all sizes, including 30-inch rainbow trout.
Just outside the hatchery, Dry Creek Run offers a catch-and-release area for children 16 and younger and individuals with mobility challenges. Families can enjoy a scenic spot and even feed the fish for just 25 cents.
Norfork Brewing Co., located on Highway 5, is an ideal spot to relax after a day outdoors. We tried a bison cheeseburger pizza paired with local brews. The outdoor seating and live music add to the welcoming atmosphere.
River Ridge Inn provides a cozy, family-friendly stay right on the riverfront. Pet-friendly rooms and excellent fishing nearby make it a convenient base for Norfork adventures. Advance reservations are recommended during peak seasons.
Stop by 1906 Coffee Co. for specialty coffee and fresh-baked scones. The friendly staff adds a personal touch to your visit, making it a highlight of the trip.
Also on Highway 5, Norfork Adventure Supply offers gear for hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities. The staff is knowledgeable and ready to help plan your next adventure.
Norfork, Arkansas, has something for everyone. Whether casting lines on the river, enjoying local cuisine, or exploring the outdoors, it is a destination worth visiting. Plan your trip soon and make memories that will last a lifetime.
