It seems like we just barely got the Christmas tree put away (or not… I won’t name names) and we’re already setting reminders on our calendar apps to get Valentine’s Day cards. As you’ve seen in several previous posts, an amazing number of Arkansans are busy in their workshops making delicious and beautiful things for us to give to our loved ones throughout the year. Here’s a list of ideas that will help make this February 14th one of the best ones yet, no matter what love language they speak.
Chocolate
Arkansas makers simply knock it out of the park when it comes to cranking out tasty sweets. There are a number of delicious options for those of you who have a sweet tooth – or know someone who does. Hello Cocoa, Izard Chocolate and Kyya Chocolate are all serving up a variety of artisan bars in locations around the state and online. Lambrecht Gourmet, Martin Greers Candies and Taste & See are more traditional makers, in case you can’t think of anything more romantic than a big box of mixed sweets.
Coffee
For some people, coffee is their love language. For them, Arkansas makers have them well-covered. Check out Arsaga’s and Onyx Coffee Lab in Northwest Arkansas, Mountain Bird in Holiday Island, or West Rock in Little Rock for a wide selection of coffee and coffee-related gift ideas.
Cocktails
For others folks, caffeine comes in a close second to a nicely mixed cocktail. If you’re planning a special date night you should take a look at the fantastic selection of syrups and shrubs made by Pink House Alchemy and distilled adult beverages from Rock Town Distillery.
Arkansas wineries are also offering some seriously romantic date night options – either at home or at one of the many bed and breakfasts located on vineyard properties. Bonus: If you prefer a “mocktail,” Pink House and many of the wineries listed can take care of your thirst as well.
Jewelry
If you’re looking for a little gift to go along with the beverages and chocolate this Valentine’s Day, jewelry is never a bad idea. Arkansas is full of makers who create everything from fine sculpture you can wear, to custom pieces you can have stamped with a personal message unique to your beloved.
arch + craft is a husband and wife team of makers who met in architecture school, but turned their love for form and function into a line of necklaces and earrings like nothing you’ve seen before.
Bella Vita Jewelry makes timeless jewelry out of vintage pieces, brass charms and semi-precious stones. She has a shop in Little Rock where she sells her handmade jewelry along with uniquely lovely boutique accessories and home goods.
Hank Kaminsky is a Fayetteville sculptor who specializes in huge pieces made from cast bronze, and his small pendants and earrings are no less spectacular. Who wouldn’t want to wear a piece of fine art?
Quiet Clementine makes beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces in her Bryant studio. The pastel and bright gold glazes she’s known for evoke a soft, whimsical mood and would appeal to jewelry lovers of all ages.
Robinson Lane specializes in hand-stamped brass pieces that can be customized with charms and semi-precious stones for a truly personal touch. (Be sure to look at their state pendants!)
For more traditional jewelry choices the Valentine’s Day, longtime Arkansas jewelers Blakeman’s in Rogers, David Adams in Fayetteville, Sissy’s Log Cabin in Pine Bluff, Little Rock and Jonesboro, and Underwoods in Fayetteville are always great options.
