Tailgating Chicken Wings

It’s finally here! Arkansans love football and there’s nothing that pulls our state and communities together like supporting our college and hometown teams.

One thing you can count on is that if there’s a gathering of football fans in Arkansas, there’s going to be delicious food. What better way to enjoy the season than the time-honored tradition of tailgating?

Chicken wings are a centerpiece of any tailgate gathering. There’s just something undeniably good about juicy wings covered in a tasty, succulent sauce. We’ve pulled three top chicken wings recipes out of ‘What’s Cookin’ at First Security’ Cookbook. You can find these and other mouthwatering tailgating recipes in the Appetizers & Beverages section.

Put on your team colors, pull out the grills, coolers, smokers and slow cookers. Let’s get ready for some football.

ORIENTAL CHICKEN WINGS

Prep Time: 3 to 6 hours, depending on slow cooker setting
Servings: Eight (4 piece) servings

Ingredients:

  • 32 pieces chicken wing drums and flats, thawed
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup dry sherry
  • 1 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Chopped chives

Instructions:
1. On a foil lined baking sheet pan, broil wings about 5 minutes per side.
2. Transfer wings to slow cooker.
3. In a medium bowl, stir together soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, red onion, ginger and garlic.
4. Pour over wings in slow cooker.
5. Stir to coat wings.
6. Cover and cook on low 5 to 6 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours. Sprinkle with chives.

Makes 32 appetizers.

BALLGAME HOT WINGS

Prep Time: 1 hour
Servings: Eight 4 piece servings

Ingredients

  • 2 packages chicken wingettes
  • Frank’s Hot Sauce
  • Cavender’s All Purpose Greek Seasoning
  • Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning
  • Blue Cheese Dressing

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Line a baking sheet pan (with sides) with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
3. Place chicken wings on pan in a single layer.
4. Sprinkle wings with as much Frank’s Hot Sauce as your taste buds can stand.
5. Sprinkle Cavender’s All Purpose and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning lightly, but evenly, over wings.
6. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until fully cooked and lightly browned.
7. Remove from oven and allow to rest for a minute before serving.
8. Serve with Blue Cheese dressing for a dipping sauce.
9. Enjoy!

HONEY GLAZED CHICKEN WINGS

Prep Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds chicken wings, cut and end tipped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ cup honey, heated
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. On a baking sheet pan or large baking dish, arrange wings side by side.
3. Drizzle oil over wings.
4. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
5. In a medium bowl, combine honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup and garlic.
6. Pour over wings.
7. Bake for approximately 1 hour, or until fully cooked and lightly browned.
