This amazing week, sandwiched between the long days of winter and the packed-full last few months of school, is the perfect time to plan fun activities with your kids. So gather up your “What’s Cookin’ at First Security” Cookbook, a few household supplies, and make some memories that will last a lifetime.
Since it’s a beautiful Arkansas spring out there, you may want to plan these on the deck, porch, or in the yard because it may get a bit messy. All the more for your Spring Breakers to enjoy! You’ll find these and other great recipes for fun in the “Penny’s Picks” section of our cookbook.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1 Glob of Flubber
Ingredients:
Mixture #1
1 cup white or gel school glue
¾ cup warm water
Your favorite color of Food Coloring
Mixture #2
2 teaspoons Borax
½ cup warm water
Instructions:
1. In a medium sized mixing bowl, stir ingredients for Mixture #1 together well.
2. In a large mixing bowl, stir ingredients for Mixture #2 together well.
3. Slowly pour Mixture #1 into Mixture #2.
4. No need to stir: Just reach in and pull out a glob of FLUBBER.
5. Knead it for 2 – 3 minutes.
6. Store in an airtight container.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1 Glob of Oobleck
Ingredients:
1 ½ cup corn starch
1 cup of water
Food coloring
Instructions:
1. Outside, or on a covered surface, gather ingredients.
2. In a large mixing bowl, mix corn starch, water, and food coloring.
3. When ‘pushed’ together, the mixture will appear dry and solid. When children let the mixture rest on their hand or a plate, it flows like a liquid. Pretty cool thing experiment for kids.
4. Store in an airtight container.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1 ½ to 2 cups of Dough
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
½ cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup water
Food coloring
Instructions:
1. In a medium saucepan, stir together flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
2. Add oil, water, and food coloring.
3. Cook over medium heat until stiff like bread dough, stirring constantly.
4. Knead 2 – 3 minutes.
5. Store in air tight container.
