If you are curious about a coffee-shop-slash-restaurant naming themselves “Hail Fellow Well Met,” it will be helpful to know that this is an archaic English phrase that is used when referring to “a person whose behavior is hearty, friendly and congenial.” Or so the Google tells me.
Let me just be the first to say that HFWF (Hail Fellow Well Met) is hearty, friendly and pleasant. There isn’t any place like it in Northwest Arkansas!
This is unique because husband and wife duo Andrea and John Allen have perfected their Onyx Coffee concepts. It would’ve been easy to slot this new location as a typical (although they are never typical) Onyx Coffee house. HFWM is a fantastic food and beverage shop where everyone feels welcome and where nothing about it is ordinary.
HFWM opened in the fall of 2021 in Johnson Square. Andrea and John live half a mile from the shop, which is cool. Cooler than that fact is that the shop is built on the front of the property that Andrea grew up on.
Years ago, the property was sold, so when the new development opened, Andrea and John felt the space’s hospitality was extra special and meant for them. Andrea will take “stress walks” in the neighborhood, reminiscing as she passes by trees she used to climb and the good memories from her past, merging them with her new memories.
HFWM is an experience.
Gorgeous design.
Food that looks like art.
Drinks that look like high fashion.
All taste fantastic.
The space is designed for those who want to meet for coffee, work through lunch, have a fantastic sit-down brunch with a friend, drink with a date or grab some food or supplies.
There is so much to choose from at HFWM. The AM menu is available from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the PM menu is available from 2:00 p.m. to closing time.
Honestly, you can eat through the menu and not be disappointed. Try them all, from house-made sourdough to cornbread and salads to heavier fare such as burgers and Bulgogi beef sandwiches.
If you are in a breakfast food, try the Avocado Toast, served on sourdough with a jammy egg, avocado, tomato, radish, pickled onion and chili crunch. It’s as good as it looks.
Do you feel like you want a sweet or two? Go crazy with any of their pastries! However, please don’t pass up the Almond Croissant. You may never go back to a regular croissant ever again!
They also have market foods, so be sure to stop and browse for foods to go.
HFWM is all about the drinks. Okay, yes, they are all about food, too. But drinks? Let’s say that what I said about eating through the menu also applies to the beverage menu.
From pour-overs to lattes, try them all. And if you don’t know where to start? Starting with the FOMO, an espresso with vanilla, heavy cream, coconut cream and cocoa is appropriate. They have complete barista offerings that you can expect from Onyx.
You’re welcome.
And if you’re into smoothies, beers, wines, mocktails or specialty cocktails, try them all!
Grab a drink, grab a bite, and head to the patio to enjoy the weather.
