Puppy Chow Lunchbox Treats

B

Back-to-school season is here, and this super-easy Puppy Chow recipe (others may call it Muddy Buddies) is a sure-fire hit! Mix up a batch to add as backpack snacks, lunchbox treats and after-school bites. This recipe makes a huge batch that can last a couple of weeks, provided you can resist grabbing a handful every time you walk by. We wish you good luck with that! This Puppy Chow Recipe is an oldie but a goodie that has stood the test of time and is a perfect addition to the cookbook. It’s extremely easy and comes together in no time. Seriously, the hardest part is not eating it at each stage of mixing.

Easy Peasy Pleasy Tips

  • Measure out all your ingredients ahead of time and have all the kitchen equipment ready. This recipe comes together so fast that you will want all ingredients, Ziplock bags, and parchment-lined sheet pans ready.
  • The recipe calls for chocolate chips. I suggest using milk chocolate chips rather than semi-sweet or dark chocolate for the kiddos’ taste buds.
  • This recipe does not have to be refrigerated, but it is also yummy eaten cold.

Puppy Chow aka Muddy Buddies

Ingredients

  • 9 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Directions

Empty cereal into a large bowl. In a saucepan, melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Stir frequently and remove from heat, then stir in vanilla extract. Pour the mixture over the cereal and stir until evenly distributed. Put the coated cereal into a gallon bag with a seal. Add powdered sugar to the bag. Seal the bag and shake until the sugar is fully coated. Empty contents onto wax paper to cool.
