The Old Bank: Russellville’s Hometown Gathering Place

E

Every Arkansas town has a few places that become more than just restaurants. They become gathering spots where families celebrate milestones, friends meet after long weeks, and college students find a second home.

In Russellville, The Old Bank is exactly that.

Situated in a beautifully restored early 1900s bank building, The Old Bank established itself as a cornerstone of the downtown community. Whether you are a local, a college student, or a visitor discovering Russellville for the first time, The Old Bank welcomes everyone like an old friend.

A Historic Setting with Deep Roots

The Old Bank’s home at the corner of West Main Street encompasses more than a century of history. Originally built as the First National Bank, the building survived the devastating fire of 1906 that destroyed 22 downtown businesses. The only thing left standing was the original vault and door, which are still visible when you walk inside. Rebuilt in 1907, the building later became the Bank of Russellville and, over time, housed several businesses, including a shoe store and an art studio. The current owners, Jason and Daranda Golden, have embraced the building’s heritage while creating a vibrant space where community, history and modern comfort come together.

Downtown Russellville is once again becoming the heart of the city. The Old Bank has played a key role in revitalizing this area. The restaurant’s bank-themed décor and menu celebrate the building’s history while offering a fresh and exciting dining experience.

How You Can Experience The Old Bank

The Old Bank offers much more than just great food. It has become Russellville’s favorite spot for family nights, college gatherings and weekend entertainment. With live music, trivia and karaoke, something is always going on. They have recently added golf simulators, making it an affordable and enjoyable activity for students and families.

The restaurant is a welcoming space for everyone. It is common to see groups celebrating birthdays, sports teams grabbing a meal between games, or old friends catching up over a burger and a beer. Many regulars compare the atmosphere to the classic “Cheers,” where everybody knows your name, you can high-five the staff, and you are always treated like family.

Our family made a stop as we drove through the River Valley to our alma mater’s homecoming this fall. It was an easy detour from I-40 and provided a hearty dinner. My kiddo discovered bites he loved, and the adults could choose our meals without having to dodge mostly fried foods and steaks. It was a series of delightful bites!

Featured Menu Favorites

The Old Bank’s menu presents a fresh twist on American comfort food, featuring creative variations. The menu sections incorporate banking terminology to maintain a playful theme. Here are some of the most ordered favorites:

Appetizers (Initial Deposits)

  • Bacon-Wrapped Dates
  • Jackalope Fries (Philly cheesesteak over steak fries with cheese dip)

Burgers and Sandwiches (Stackin’ the Bread)

  • Stanley Cup Burger (a nod to the original owner, Stan Newton, who had the vision for the restaurant in this space)
  • Razorback Burger (what else do you eat when you cheer on the Hogs!)
  • Prime Rib French Dip (homemade cheese dip and au jus…do you need more negotiating?)

Steaks and Entrees (Major Investments served with Loose Change)

  • Hand-Cut Filets
  • Prime Rib (Friday and Saturday nights)
  • Quail Medallions
  • Pork Tenderloin

Desserts (Sweet Returns)

  • Orange Crème Brule
  • Cookie Skillet
  • Rotating seasonal desserts created by the restaurant’s talented pastry prep team

Brunch (Saturdays and Sundays)

  • Eggs Benedict
  • The Sunshine Burger
  • Chicken and Waffles

And, of course, you can chase it all down with a series of housemade “liquid assets!”

Events and Community Connection

The Old Bank offers nightly entertainment, including trivia, bingo, karaoke and live bands. They also host watch parties for major sports events like Razorback games and the Super Bowl. The upstairs private dining room, the Russellville Room, is available for private events such as reunions, graduation parties and rehearsal dinners. It can comfortably accommodate 40 guests and is often booked months in advance.

The owners prioritize maintaining the restaurant as a place where the community feels valued. They collaborate with local college groups, offer student discounts, and frequently support athletic teams and campus organizations. Their goal is straightforward: creating a space where locals and visitors feel at home.

Whether you are watching the Wonder Boys play, attending a sports tournament or passing through Interstate 40, The Old Bank is worth a stop. You’ll find great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and an authentic taste of Russellville hospitality.

In a building that once safeguarded Russellville’s fortunes, the Old Bank now protects something even more valuable: community. Whether you come for the prime rib, the live music, or simply to be part of the fun, this local favorite remains a place where memories are made.
