It’s fall in Arkansas and the weather is fine. Here are some events to get out and enjoy in the Natural State the weekend of October 2-4, 2015. Don’t forget your camera.

Musicfest – El Dorado

Two days. Over 30 acts. Main Street Eldorado presents the 28th MusicFest El Dorado Oct. 2 & 3rd. Enjoy the best in live music along with food, drinks, family entertainment, arts & crafts, kidz world and more at the largest music festival in South Arkansas.

Musicfest 28 will feature over 30 acts on four stages including performances by multi-platinum selling artists 3 Doors Down, country music legend Dwight Yoakam, the world’s greatest piano player Jason D. Williams & much, much more. And that more does include Arkansas’ own Barrett Baber.

Parkview’s Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre – Little Rock

Enjoy a suspense-filled evening at Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School’s annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre as they present Dusty Doomsday written by Parkview’s own Rahlea Zinck and Cameron Minor.

Parkview’s Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre is far from typical theatre as it allows the audience to become characters in the performance in this interactive experience. At the door, participants are given character names and a short character description.

5TH ANNUAL HOT WATER HILLS MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL – Hot Springs

The Hot Water Hills Music & Arts Festival is a quirky mix of music, art, food, drink, contests and children activities. Hipsters, hippies with children or hippies without children, there is something for just about everyone to enjoy.

Music is the main focus of Hot Water Hills. The Handmade Art Fair was in full force last year with artisans selling one of a kind art including paintings, pottery, jewelry and much more and we hope this year will be the same. Hot Water Hills opens Friday, and continues Saturday. Bring a lawn chair and join the fun!

Herb Harvest Festival –  Mountain View

Nationally known and regional herbalists and local herbal merchants will share their knowledge in this annual seminar at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. This year’s festival will focus on connecting herbs of northwestern Europe herb gardening and cultural traditions with our Ozark traditions of yesterday and today. The events kicks off with a lavish herbal feast at The Skillet Restaurant, then two days filled with informative, interactive sessions and concludes with socializing and folk music at the Jimmy Driftwood concert Saturday night. Big Rock Mountain Bike Festival – North Little Rock

Saturday is Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day and the Central Arkansas Trail Alliance and ArkansasOutside.com will help get your family biking. The Big Rock Mountain Bike Festival is Saturday, Oct. 3 and will include a children obstacle course, easy trail rides led by experienced mountain bike leaders and other events such as a women’s mountain biking clinic, a “bunny-hop” clinic and other games and contests. Grab your bike and helmet and head out to Cooks Landing, at the base of the Big Dam Bridge in North Little Rock from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Owl Fest – McGehee

In conjunction with McGehee’s Homecoming, friends and family return home for a weekend of football, Razorback tailgating, live music, various contests and children’s events. Special activities include Tour de Hoot bicycle ride, 5K Run, Owl Hoot Contest, horseshoe tournament, motorcycle/auto show, art & crafts vendors, children’s and adult BBQ contest and food vendors.

High Cotton On The Bayou Festival – Scott

Festival features family-friendly fun while connecting with rural history; authentic plantation buildings; live music; demonstrations of turn-of-the-century heritage skills such as sorghum making, blacksmithing, churning butter, etc.; old-time games for children, crafts, face painting, antique vehicles and farm equipment; authors & artists; local crafts, baked sweets and produce vendors; food from local eateries.

Hosts will be available at each structure to tell its story. Visitors can even participate in a start-to-finish process as sorghum is cut, milled, cooked and sold, all on the premises. Several local groups will perform music from folk to rockabilly and there also will be games for all ages, a hay ride and crafts sales.
