Now that I’m in my early thirties, all of my friends are married and most have kids now. It’s hard for them to get away and have a Girls Night Out, so I have had to learn to do things by myself. It was kind of scary at first but it’s actually really fun! I can truly say that I enjoy going out solo.
I have learned to enjoy my own company and to just be myself. So what is there to do in central Arkansas by yourself? Good question…
Take yourself out to eat. I’m not saying go out on a Friday night when the restaurants are packed because that’s a little awkward but I like to treat myself to a late lunch or early dinner. Sometimes I bring a book or iPad to keep myself busy while I wait on my food. I also love to people watch at restaurants. You never know what you’re going to see or overhear! One of my favorite go-to solo restaurants is US Pizza. I love their salads and you can get a pizza small enough for one! My favorite is the Judy’s Favorite Pizza!
Go to the movies. I actually wrote a whole post on my blog about the “solo movie rules“. I admit I have broken a few of them but I really love going to the movies solo. No one will judge you for eating the large popcorn and candy if you are by yourself. Just go around noon and call it lunch!
Browse a bookstore with a cup of coffee. I love to read and hitting up my local Hastings and browsing for a few hours is pure bliss to me. I love Hastings because they always have really great deals on books. I usually walk out with an armload of new-to-me books. Hastings also has super yummy coffee and a great atmosphere, no one really bothers me and the sales people aren’t pushy. I really do think I could live in a bookstore.
Go to a museum. Central Arkansas has tons of museums and I am sad to say that I have only been to a few. There is nothing better than an afternoon of walking through a museum at your own pace and really just taking in everything. One of my favorites is the Clinton Presidential Center. It’s gorgeous and has two new exhibits I am dying to see, “Pigskin in Peanuts” and “Heartbreak in Peanuts” which both honor the 65th anniversary of Charles Shultz’s Peanuts cartoon.
Treat yourself. I am all about treating myself after a long week. I am especially fond of getting a pedicure and ice cream, even if it’s 15 degrees outside! I have a favorite little nail salon in West Little Rock, Elegant Nails, that I have been going to since I moved to Central Arkansas over six years ago. There is nothing I love more than to get my pedicure with a side of Shake’s Frozen Custard. If you haven’t been to Shake’s then you are truly missing out. I always go for the Concrete with Cake Batter and Caramel. YUM!
Do you ever have a solo night out? If you do then what is your favorite thing to do?
