Mount Ida | ‘Quartz Capital of the World’

N

Nestled in the heart of the Ouachita Mountains, Mount Ida proudly holds the title of the “Quartz Capital of the World.” This small town in Montgomery County is world-famous for its abundance of high-quality quartz crystals and attracts rockhounds, gem collectors and curious travelers from all over.

The unique geology of the Ouachita Mountains makes Mount Ida one of the richest sources of quartz on Earth. Over millions of years, hydrothermal activity beneath the surface created stunning crystal formations, leading to vast deposits of clear, high-quality quartz. The area’s quartz is so pure that it’s often used in electronics and fine jewelry and sold worldwide.
