Razorbacks in Paris Olympics

When the Olympic games kick off next week in Paris, Razorback fans won’t have to look too hard to find a Razorback to root for during many of the competitions that take place as part of the event.

In all, 24 current and former Razorback athletes are slated to compete in various events in the 2024 games, including track and field, swimming, and golf.

In addition, future Razorback Joscelyn Robertson, who has signed as part of the women’s gymnastics team this season, may also get a chance to show off her skills as an alternate on the women’s gymnastics team.

The Razorbacks’ 50-time NCAA championship track and field program will be best represented at this year’s games. In all, 20 former Razorback track athletes are set to compete in this year’s game. Among them, 7 athletes will compete for the USA: Chris Bailey (400M, 4x400M relay), Taliyah Brooks (heptathlon), Kaylyn Brown (4×400 relay pool), Rachel Glenn (high jump), Nikki Hiltz (1,500m), Jarrion Lawson (long jump), and Isabella Whittaker (4×400 relay pool).

Eight Razorback athletes will compete for Jamaica, including Romaine Beckford (high jump), Janeek Brown (100m hurdles), Jaydon Hibbert (triple jump), Carey McLeod (long jump), Wayne Pinnock (long jump), Ackera Nugent (100m hurdles), Nickisha Pryce (400m, 4x400m relay), and Roje Stona (discus).

Other Razorbacks competing this year include Sanu Jallow representing Gambia in the 800m, Shafiqua Maloney representing St. Vincent & the Grenadines in the 800m, Ayden Owens-Deleme competing for Puerto Rico in the decathlon, Tina Sutej competing for Slovenia in the Pole Vault, and Amber Anning will be competing for Great Britain in the 400 m, 4x400m relay.

In non-track and field events, Anna Hopkin will represent Great Brittain as a swimmer in the 50m free, 100m free, and relays. Also, Maria Fassi and Gaby Lopez will compete for Mexico and Nico Echavarria will represent Columbia in golf.

UA officials said that several other Olympic athletes have been training in Fayetteville to get ready for this year’s games. Those athletes include Brittany Brown (USA, 200m), Anna Cockrell (USA, 400m hurdles), Ryan Crouser (USA, shot put), Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA, long jump), Alexis Holmes (USA, 400m, 4 x 400m relay), Shamier Little (USA, 4×400 relay pool), Andrenette Knight (Jamaica, 4 x 400m relay pool), Jah-Nhai Perinchief (Bermuda, triple jump), and Cindy Sember (Great Britain, 100m hurdles).

The Summer 2024 Paris Olympic Games will begin on Wednesday, July 24, and run through Aug. 11. This year’s event will include more than 10,000 athletes competing in 45 events, including gymnastics, basketball, swimming, soccer, cycling, archery, fencing, shooting, and more.
