Exploring Fun the First Weekend in September!

I

It’s September! Explore the Natural State with jazz and blues festival or wild cave tours. Find treasures at the craft fairs or haul in your watermelon and see who’s is the biggest. Then, let’s put the cherry on the top of the whole weekend with an old-fashioned ice cream social.  Fun and adventure awaits!

Wild Cave Tour

Wild Cave Tour – Fifty-Six

4-hour guided trip into undeveloped portions of Blanchard Springs Caverns. Visitors must have sturdy boots; must be in good physical condition, and be prepared to climb, crawl, and get dirty. The tour ends at the spectacular Titans formations. Participants must be at least ten years old. A responsible adult must tour with ten to twelve-year-olds. Open year round; tours by reservation only.

20th Hot Springs Blues Festival – Hot Springs

Labor Day Weekend will see the 20th Hot Springs Blues Festival serve up some steamin’ hot blues music in downtown Hot Springs. The partial line-up for the festival includes a bevy of local acts as well as some up and coming national acts: The Spa City Youngbloods, Stuart Baer, Lance Womack, Cedell Davis, Trey Johnson, Jason Willmon, Noah Wotherspoon Band, and The Delgado Brothers.

Watermelon contest

6th Annual Watermelon Weigh-Off – Washington

Join the staff of Historic Washington State Park and other county residents to see who has the largest watermelon in the region. The event is a sanctioned event of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth and is sponsored by the park, the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, and the Old Washington Farmer’s Market.

65th Annual Clothesline Fair

65th Annual Clothesline Fair – Prairie Grove

At this Ozark Arts & Crafts Exhibition, which started in 1951, explore more than 100 craft booths with vendors demonstrating and selling their wares. Living history, musical entertainment, and square dancing are all important parts of this celebration. Refreshments available through the Prairie Grove Lions Club and other local non-profit vendors. Craft vendors will need to register with the Arts Center of the Ozarks (ACO) at (479) 751-5441.

Annual Ice Cream Social – Fort Smith

The Fort Smith Museum of History’s Annual Ice Cream Social is an end of summer tradition. The Sunday before Labor Day, enjoy all-you-can-eat ice cream in the museum’s old-fashioned soda fountain. Build your own sundae from a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings. All proceeds benefit the Fort Smith Museum of History. The Fort Smith Museum of History Ice Cream Social was voted the Best History Event for 2015 in Entertainment Fort Smith Magazine’s Readers Favorites issue.
