Read More about this safari issue. This weekend in Arkansas, we have musicals for kids and for adults, robots fighting for territory, vintage markets and bluegrass festivals. Or maybe you prefer a stroll through the daffodils, landing on the moon, or wearing your green in a parade. Arkansas will keep you hopping this weekend.
“Just a Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,” “Zero, My Hero,” “Interplanet Janet,” “Three is a Magic Number,” —and the beat goes on! Every song in this live musical performance of the classic, Emmy Award-winning cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock is sure to please. Packing plenty of giggles, gasps and outright laughs, this show makes grammar, science, math, history, and citizenship a delight to learn. And while the cartoon may be decades old now, this fresh live-theatre adaptation will spark the wide-eyed wonder of new discovery in our youngest generation while inviting smiles of toe-tapping, lip-synching nostalgia from the rest of us. It may be a fun-filled romp of color, comedy, music and movement, but the word of the day is still learning. Best enjoyed by all ages!

A sensation on Broadway and in London’s West End, this madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter. Set in September 1934, Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli’s Otello costume and fool the audience into thinking he’s Il Stupendo. May not be suitable for younger children.

What does it take to get to the moon? In this history-packed dramatic celebration of our American Space Program (first produced by Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater), young astronaut-hopeful Scott Gibson learns that it takes way more than just a rocket ship and a space helmet: It takes math, science, physical stamina, mental perseverance—and, oh yes, more math. But before all of that, it takes a talent that Scott has in astronomical supply—the talent to dream. A program for children. A production of Arkansas Arts Center.
