Hey Little Rock, Listen To Your Mother!

T

Take a minute and remember the last time you had an experience like that. It was special, wasn’t it? The memory alone probably brought a smile to your face.

Now, imagine. What if you could gather for an evening that was planned just for this: to listen to people with great stories to tell, people who are gifted in the telling. They would  regale you with stories along a theme. You would definitely laugh, you might cry, you would nod your head and say “me too.” You would leave full, amazed at all the differences we have but also reminded of everything we have in common.

That, friends, is the magic of Listen To Your Mother. This live-reading show takes place in cities all over the country in celebration of Mother’s Day, and we are so lucky to have our very own show right here in Little Rock. On Thursday, May 7, at 7:00 pm, 13 local writers & storytellers will take the stage at Ron Robinson Theater. Each of them will stand for a few minutes under the lights and read their own original stories, each one celebrating motherhood in some way. Want an idea of what it’s like? Here are a couple of stories from last year’s show:

Jane Morgan Balgavy shares how her own mother handles a science project gone hilariously wrong.

Bobby Harrison tells a story of young love, and how his mother interfered.

If you love a good story, you won’t want to miss this. It’s such a great gift to give your own mother for Mother’s Day, or to enjoy with a group of your friends. And it’s not just for women either, men are a part of the cast and enjoy the show as well. Best of all, you’ll be helping out a great cause; part of the show profits benefit the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence. So take your wife, invite your brothers and sisters, treat your mom, meet your friends – and Listen To Your Mother!

You can buy tickets for this year’s show on Eventbrite here. If you’d like to find out more about the show and this year’s cast, visit the Listen To Your Mother: Little Rock site.
