The Arkansas Roots Music Festival will begin at the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home at noon Saturday, April 6 and will feature an afternoon of live music from Arkansas artists. Food trucks will be available and participants will be able to tour the Boyhood Home (tour included in ticket price). Musical lineup includes: Nightwing, Posey Hill, Marty Ray Project and Jason D. Williams.

To celebrate the total solar eclipse April 8, the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau is hosting a FREE three-day concert series at First Security Amphitheater in the River Market. Ward Davis is, an Arkansas native, is a singer songwriter who has written songs recorded by Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Jewel and others. He’s currently on a national tour and recently performed at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. As part of the Beagles, a band he formed in 2009, he was notably featured in A&E’s musical reality show ‘Crazy Hearts: Nashville.’

The 62nd Annual Arkansas Folk Festival will be held April 19-20 in Mountain View, Arkansas You can take a walk around the historic downtown area and see the wonderful window displays, check out the Artisans Market featuring handmade arts and crafts, there will be antique cars, food vendors and of course, live music! The parade is Saturday at 10 a.m. The Ozark Folk Center State Park has free shuttle service to and from the court square. Bring your instruments and have some fun pickin’ and grinnin’!

Enjoy an old-fashioned Southern Spring Social at the Old State House Museum, hosted by the Arkansas State House Society. The small town of Fordyce (Dallas County) celebrates the railroad and its historical significance with the annual Fordyce on the Cotton Belt Festival, which is held each year on the fourth Saturday in April. One of the biggest highlights of the festival each year is the “Redbug Reunion Rally.” Friday night of festival week is set aside as a time for former students and graduates of Fordyce High School to get together and reminisce. This popular event is a major part of the success of the festival.

Arkansas is fortunate to be home to two minor league baseball clubs. The Arkansas Travelers are a Minor League Baseball team based in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Travelers are affiliated with the Seattle Mariners. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are based out of Springdale and are an affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Attending the games of these ballclubs is always fun because they have activities for the crowds, themed nights and the best ballpark food. Take time this month to head to a game with friends or family.
