Have a Watermelon Weekend – July 26-28, 2019

Summer weekends in Arkansas are hot, and the best way to cool off is with sweet watermelon. Folks have been long awaiting the annual arrival of the Cave City Watermelons. The wait is over, my friends, so grab your family and head to the Cave City Watermelon Festival and have a watermelon weekend. If you can’t make it to Cave City there are plenty of other fun activities this weekend: magic shows, bike festivals, shopping, musicals, and more! 

40th Annual Cave City Watermelon Festival

This weekend is the 40th celebration of the World’s Sweetest Watermelons! After its debut in 1980, the Watermelon Festival has evolved into an annual summer celebration, bringing Grammy-winning artists, emerging talent and local favorites along with thousands of people from Cave City, the surrounding area and around the United States together each year for free entertainment and an unforgettable homecoming experience like no other. During the festival, the spotlight will shine on award-winning artists, great food, family-friendly activities, and of course, a free feast of the World’s Sweetest Watermelons on Saturday afternoon. This year’s headlining artists feature the Down East Boys, Shenandoah and Mark Chestnut. Parking and entertainment are free.

Scott Davis Magic and Comedy (Hot Springs)

Magician Scott Davis has been performing magic professionally since the age of 14. Currently, Scott performs over 300 live shows a year. Davis has been seen in on Television affiliates for ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. He’s opened for Comedian Jay Leno and performed in the showrooms of Las Vegas. Jaw-Dropping Magic! Side-Splitting Comedy! Don’t miss out on watching his show while he is here in Arkansas!

Bark in the Park (Jonesboro)

Calling all Pawrents! It’s the happiest day of the year when Lake Frierson State Park goes to the dogs! The morning will be spent celebrating everything DOG with vendors, activities, dog-themed programs and much more! Well behaved, leashed pups welcome.

Moon Landing Watch Party (Texarkana)

Watch as Neil Armstrong steps onto the surface of the moon and takes a giant leap for mankind. The P.J. Ahern Home at 403 Laurel will host a Moon Landing Party complete with 1960s styled drinks and snacks. You will watch the original moon landing, play some moon landing trivia and rock away with some 60s music. You can dress in your best 1960s attire and enter the Out of this World Costume Contest!

Legally Blonde: The Musical (Pine Bluff)

Legally Blonde, a cinematic classic, was first written by Amanda Brown, then later adapted into a musical with lyrics and composition by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe. The Pine Bluff’s Art and Science Center’s Theatre Education Coordinator Lindsey Collins will direct the ASC production of Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Roller Derby Double Header (Fayetteville)

Rogers Cycling Festival

The Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders are excited to announce the 2019 Rogers Cycling Festival presented by CEI! The festival consists of several road cycling and mountain bike events held in downtown Rogers, Arkansas. The festival will bring cycling enthusiasts from across the central United States and has something for everyone — from highly skilled and competitive races to family-friendly rides. This year’s festival will include a USA Cycling sanctioned three-race Omnium option for competitive road cyclists. Proceeds from the festival benefit several nonprofit cycling causes in Northwest Arkansas.
