The University of Arkansas will be well represented next week at the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, June 10 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Eighteen Razorbacks will compete in 30 different events in the championships, which run June 10-13. Live coverage and highlights will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN’s streaming package.
In his first year as the Razorbacks men’s head coach, but his 18th year with the UA track program, Doug Case and his staff guided 18 athletes to qualify for 21 entries in 12 events for the championships.
The Razorbacks are ranked No. 1 going into the event and are the favorites to bring home another national title.
UA women’s head coach Chris Johnson, in his third year heading up the program, coached eight athletes to qualify in nine events.
Jelani Watkins and Tevijon Williams will lead the Razorback contingent, competing in the 100- and 200-meter runs as well as the 4X100-meter relay squad with Karabo Letebele and Dapriest Hogans. The relay squad finished first in the recent NCAA Qualifier, besting Houston and Cal State Fullerton with a time of 38.56.
The Razorbacks hope to stack points in the 110-meter hurdles with Abdoul Sy-Savane, Jerome Campbell, and Karomok Sacko competing.
Sy-Savane ran his career best in the qualifier with a time of 13.27, which is the third-best time in the event in UA record books.
Jordan Pierre and T.J. Tomlyanovich will compete in the 400-meter run, and Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall will run the 800.
Tomlyanovich, Wright, Zander Cruz and Pierre qualified in the 4×400-meter relay.
Marshall and Taylor will also compete in the 800-meter run. Taylor owns the No. 8 all-time collegiate time of 1:44.35.
Brian Masai will compete in the 1,500-meter with Ben Shearer and Ernest Cheruiyot set for the 5,000-meter run. Cheruiyot will also compete in the 10,000-meter run in the championships.
