Dynamite Burger at Jude’s Delight

W

With National Cheeseburger Day right around the corner on September 18, I have been gearing up for the big day by steadily researching this delectable handheld delight at various locations throughout Arkansas. And that included the Jude’s Delight food trailer stationed at 5809 South University in Little Rock.

Jude’s Delight has been on my radar for quite some time, mainly because I had been eyeing their “Mack Daddy Burger” on social media. Monique Jude Murphy owns and operates the business, one that has been going strong for four years.

“I lost my dad in 2016. At the time, I had a different career, but cooking was my first love. After the passing of my dad, he showed up in my dream and told me he was OK, to stop hurting, and to do what I love to do. So, I opened Jude’s Delight,” says Murphy.

And what about that burger I had been eyeing? Well, it is named after Monique’s father.

“The Mack Daddy Burger came about because I wanted a great item to sell and everyone loves a good homemade, well-seasoned burger. I wanted to hear my dad’s name daily, so I came out with a ‘Mack Daddy Burger.’ Now, every burger has the ‘Mack’ name in it.”

Monique is spot-on about the Mack Daddy being well-seasoned. In fact, that is what separates this burger from much of the competition. I also enjoyed the thicker, hand-formed patty, and the soft, grilled bun that held its form nicely during consumption. This is a hearty burger with a slice of melted American cheese draped over the patty and tomato and lettuce just underneath. Everything melds together so nicely. Thick-cut, fresh-out-of-the-fryer fries come with the burger. Those, too, have an ample amount of seasoning, which I quickly learned is a signature move by Monique and her crew. The entire meal is $11, an unbeatable price given the quality and portions.

If you are looking to try out something else, I also recommend the salmon. The massive slab of fish, which rests atop a bed of rice, is sliced lengthwise and stuffed with spinach dip. Broccoli and buttered bread accompany the salmon, making it a lunch that will certainly provide enough leftovers. Other popular menu items include the salmon shrimp and grits, spinach chicken quesadillas, and the fried chicken dinner. If available, I recommend a piece of chocolate cake, a simple sheet variety with a nice layer of chocolate icing.

Please keep an eye out on the trailer’s hours, as Jude’s Delight is currently only open on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. That may change, but until then, you better go check out this burger on one of those days.

I am guessing you will not be disappointed. If you are, then there is always more cheeseburger research out there to do.
