Celebrate Fathers This Weekend – June 13-16

F

Fast cars, food, fishing and floating: this weekend is all about celebrating fathers.  There will be a Gemboree at Crater of Diamonds, The 61st Annual Auto Show on Petit Jean Mountain, concerts celebrating Arkansas musicians, and a Father’s Day Chocolate-making class. The Farm-to-Table event in Clarksville is sure to excite your palate or bring home your catch from the Perch Jerk Tournament in Jersey for a great home-cooked meal. Whatever you do, don’t forget to celebrate fathers this weekend.

61st Annual Auto Show and Swap Meet (Morrilton)

This annual antique car show is co-hosted by the Mid-America Old Time Automobile Association and the Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain. There will be classic and vintage automobiles from all over the region on display.

Annual Lake Greeson Days  (Kirby)

Head to Daisy State Park for Lake Greeson Days! This event will include the 30th Annual Kids Fishing Derby as well as a variety of contests, programs, and tours. There will be prizes plus fun for the entire family! This weekend event is sure to bring the fun of Daisy State Park’s natural resources to your family.

Farm to Table (Clarksville)

Join the Clarksville Johnson County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, June 14 for their second annual Farm to Table event. Head over, grab a plate of delicious, locally-grown food and enjoy the live music. Tickets will be available at the door!

Sunset Cinema — The Sandlot (Russellville)

The Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to present their Sunset Cinema. Sunset Cinema is an outdoor movie theater which operates on the lawn of the Lake Dardanelle State Park visitor center. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the movie this weekend is The Sandlot and will begin at sunset. This is a free event.

27th Annual Perch Jerk Tournament (Jersey)

During this two-person team Perch Jerk tournament, you can explore Moro Bay State Park, where waterways meet, people gather, and nature thrives. The tournament is open to everyone (one member must be 18 or older or if both are younger have written parental consent). There will be door prizes to give away following the weigh-in. You may register at the visitor center until 9 a.m. on the day of the tournament. The tournament is restricted to bream and crappie. The weigh-in will be at noon at the Moro Bay State Park launching area. There will be cash prizes for the heaviest combined weight of bream and crappie!

9th Annual Prospectors’ Gemboree (Murfreesboro)

Head to Crater of Diamonds State Park for the annual keystone event celebrating diamond miners in Arkansas! Festivities include games for all ages, treasure hunt, the annual Famous Crater Diamonds Exhibition, and more! Pick up a full schedule of activities on the day of the event.

Authentic East Arkansas Mississippi River Float Experience (Marianna)

Join Mississippi River State Park and Quapaw Canoe for a day on the Mississippi River. Everyone will paddle together with a guide from Quapaw and a staff member from Mississippi River State Park in a 16 man canoe. No previous experience is necessary. You will travel 9 miles on the Mississippi River with stops along the way for exploring, swimming, birding, beach combing. There will be a 2-3 hour stop on Buck Island for lunch and exploring. Cost includes guides, outfitting, insurance coverage for each participant (through Lloyd’s of London), shuttle back to your vehicles at the end of the day, snacks and water. You can either pack your own sack lunch or for $15 we will provide James Beard Award-Winning Jones BBQ with all the fixings.

2019 East Village Jam (Little Rock)

The 2nd Annual East Village Jam, presented by Riceland is this weekend! Held on the lawns of the Clinton Presidential Center, from 5:00 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, enjoy a Summer night of concerts celebrating Arkansas music, set in a growing downtown neighborhood. The lineup includes Dazz & Brie, Dial Up, and The Cons of Formant! Attendees will also enjoy food trucks, craft beer from Rebel Kettle, spirits, and plenty of games. Food trucks will include Adobo To Go, Count Porkula, Just N Case, Riceland Mobile Cafe, Rock Brick Oven Pizza, and Roll It Ice Cream!

Chocolate Making Class — Father’s Day (Bentonville)

This 2-hour course gets you involved and hands-on our 8-day process of making chocolate from scratch. You will learn how to sort, winnow, start batches to grind, temper, and mold chocolate bars. You will be able to pick from an assortment of toppings to add your own magic to 3 of your very own chocolate bars to take home. This would be a perfect activity for Father’s Day!
