10 Spots for Gorgeous Arkansas Fall Photography

I

I grew up in Vermont, one of the most acclaimed states for producing spectacular fall colors. When I first came to Arkansas, the slow shift from green leaves to brown leaves was pretty, albeit a bit underwhelming. While I have grown to appreciate the subtleties of the changing leaves in Arkansas, I have learned to seek out places across the state where the color can be just as striking as my childhood stomping grounds. With its stunning mix of hardwoods, rolling hills, and scenic landscapes, the Natural State offers countless opportunities to capture the beauty of autumn. While the maples in New England may steal the spotlight, the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of Arkansas are still spectacular—and much closer to home.

The timing and intensity of the fall colors can vary depending on the weather. A warm, dry autumn typically leads to more muted tones, while cool nights and sunny days bring out the vivid hues we all love. Rainfall throughout the year can also influence how vibrant the leaves will be, so each season offers a unique display of nature’s palette. Grab your favorite seasonal flavored local treat, check out these locations around the state for the best fall photography, and find tips for taking photos with your cell phone at the end.

Tips for Photographing Fall Color with Your Cell Phone

You don’t need a fancy camera to capture the beauty of fall—your cell phone is a great tool for taking stunning landscape photos. With the quality of smartphone cameras improving all the time, it’s easier than ever to snap beautiful pictures. The key is to know a few tricks to make the most of your phone’s capabilities, so you can capture the vibrant colors of autumn without needing professional equipment.

Here are some tips for taking gorgeous fall landscape photos with your phone:

  • Early morning or late afternoon light gives your photos a warm, golden glow that enhances the fall colors.
  • Before taking any shots, give your camera lens a quick wipe to ensure clear, sharp images.
  • Don’t just shoot from eye level—get low, angle upwards, or find unique perspectives to add depth to your photos.
  • Tap on your phone’s screen to adjust the focus and make sure your subject is sharp, especially when shooting trees or close-up leaves.
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) can help balance out the bright sky and darker landscapes, ensuring both are well-exposed.
  • Zooming in can reduce image quality, so move closer to your subject if possible or crop the photo later.
  • Edit your photos using apps such as Snapseed and Lightroom.

Arkansas may not always get the same fall foliage fame as other regions, but as seen in the photos above, its autumn beauty is undeniable. With a little exploration and a few simple photography tips, you can easily turn your cell phone into a powerful tool for showcasing the breathtaking transformation of the Natural State. So, grab your camera, hit the road, and discover the magic of Arkansas in the fall.
