While he’s not ready for all the films listed below, these are a great mix of titles for older children, nostalgic adults, or anyone up for a story with Arkansas roots.
I often find myself staring at TV menus, endlessly scrolling and trying to pick something. That’s why summer is the perfect time to make a plan to watch some classics and take pride in Arkansas appearing on screen. Whether it’s in the story, filming locations or the actors, these Arkansas-connected movies make summer screen time more memorable.
As we start this list, keep in mind that everyone has different movie tastes and standards for what they find appropriate. Use your judgment when assessing movies. A listing doesn’t imply endorsement of the topics or storylines, and this is not intended to be a comprehensive catalog of all films related to Arkansas — it’s simply a starting point.
Trail of Vengeance (2025)
Arkansas connection: Filmed in downtown Van Buren with elaborate set transformations for this Western drama.
A gritty period piece set in the Old West, this highly anticipated film captures the sights and sounds of the era in Northwest Arkansas, featuring dirt streets, stagecoaches and frontier justice. Starring Scout Willis, it’s an excellent choice for Western fans interested in modern takes on classic shootouts.

Arkansas connection: Filmed entirely at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA)
Meg Ryan and David Duchovny star as exes who get snowed in at an airport and reflect on their past in this mature, witty romantic dramedy. It’s a slow-paced, dialogue-heavy story, perfect for an at-home date night when the kids are asleep and you’re in the mood for a thoughtful rekindling tale.

Arkansas connection: Opening credits show The Old Mill in North Little Rock

Arkansas connection: Set in Arkansas, capturing rural farm life and based on the writer’s childhood in Lincoln.
This tender, emotional film follows a Korean American family as they attempt to start a new life on an Arkansas farm. It’s full of heart, cultural nuances and subtle strength, making it a great conversation starter for older kids and a story that captures the essence of summer.
Sling Blade (1996) | Rated: R
Arkansas connection: Filmed in Benton and Haskell, including Gary’s Sling Blade restaurant; stars and was directed by Billy Bob Thornton.
