Three Arkansas RV Trips to Take This Fall

A

Arkansas is full of scenic byways and prime road trip routes just waiting to be explored. The state may be seen by some serious RVers as just a place to pass through, but that just means that we locals get the front row seat on some amazing trips through the state. Load up the camper because we’re heading on an Arkansas RV trip.

Fall is one of the best times to drive through Arkansas and traveling with an RV is a great way to see the state. When you bring your lodging right along with you, you can go where the open road leads you, staying in RV parks and campgrounds as you travel. If reservations are a problem, Walmart often allows RVers to park in their lots overnight, and Arkansas has many Walmart stores. It is always best to check the regulations of individual Walmart before setting up camp for the night.

Disclaimer: When traveling with an RV, it is always important to do your homework regarding routes. Depending on the size of your rig, not all routes are passable. If you select one of these suggested routes, we urge you to make sure all roads are suitable for your RV setup.

Crowley’s Ridge Parkway National Scenic Byway

Entering the state at St. Francis, the Crowley’s Ridge Byway travels 198 miles, ending in Helena-West Helena. Along the way, travelers will see expanses of farmland, several towns, and cities and get to experience the unique geological formation that is Crowley’s Ridge. The byway passes six Arkansas State Parks and the St. Francis National Forest.

Greers Ferry Lake

Although there isn’t a specified route that circles Greers Ferry Lake, it is a popular spot for Sunday drivers and RVers alike. The 40,500-acre lake is a hot spot for vacationers and is surrounded by quaint towns worth visiting. The lake and the hydroelectric power plant located at the dam in Heber Springs is managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The dam in Heber is well known as the dedication ceremony was the last public appearance made by John F. Kennedy before his assassination in 1967.

Talimena Scenic Drive

The Talimena Scenic Drive snakes through portions of the Ozark National Forest from Mena to the Arkansas/Oklahoma border via Highway 88. The road is full of beautiful scenic overlooks and loaded with history. It’s an incredible drive any time of the year, but it’s a bit more magical in the fall.
